Overview
Independent Networks will perform an independent assessment of network to determine the capability of the Customer's network infrastructure to support UC/IP Telephony and Data services.
Independent Networks will get access to the network on the LAN or using a network sequencer (a software executable file) will be deployed on a workstation/server in the Customer's environment, identified in consultation with the Customer. The workstation/server must have reachability to all devices (target hosts) to be included in LAN/WAN test.
A performance test is run between the workstation/server and a target host; the path is the route between the workstation/server and any end point (IP Address) in LAN/WAN. The path can include several hops and Targets can include PCs, servers, routers, switches & handsets.
Assessment activities include testing the influence of current network conditions, the end-to-end profile of key network paths (identified in consultation with the Customer), deviations from industry standards (jitter, end-to-end latency, packet loss & Mean Opinion Score), and detection of network dysfunctions.
Assessment findings include the following:
" Voice/data readiness on a per network path basis
" Diagnostics generated by testing, e.g., "Limited performance likely due to use of half duplex or mixture of half- and full-duplex modes detected on network path"
" Recommended actions to take in order to address dysfunctions on the network path that are causing the diagnosed issues, e.g., "Check duplex settings on all interfaces on network path"
Independent Networks will provide a report containing the assessment findings and, if applicable, recommendations to fix any detected performance issues.
The Independent Networks Help desk will arrange a meeting with the Customer to provide a forum for Independent Networks's technical personnel to discuss the assessment findings presented in the report with the Customer.
Scope
If an activity or deliverable is not listed as In a provided and signed Scope of work, it should be considered out of scope for the Services.
Customer Responsibilities
Single Point of Contact
Customer is responsible for Providing a single point of contact (SPOC) to be the primary liaison for Independent Networks while on the project. The SPOC should have the authority to resolve issues and to provide timely decisions and direction to Independent Networks. The Customer may identify a second point of contact as an alternate.
System Modifications
Customer is Responsible for modifications to any of Customer's internal systems, as required, to provide Independent Networks with the use of interfaces necessary for Independent Networks to perform its Service obligations.
Network Diagrams
Customer is responsible for Providing Independent Networks with physical and logical topologies of their existing LAN/WAN configuration
Workstation/Server
" Customer is responsible for Providing workstation/server consistent with Independent Networks's technical recommendations (based upon network topology) on which to install software required to provide the Service. The workstation/server should have LAN/WAN reachability to all target hosts/IPs to be included in assessment, preferably on the voice VLAN
" Install the software (e-mailed by Independent Networks to the SPOC) on the workstation/server
" Enable QoS Packet Scheduler on the workstation/server's Network Interface Card
Ports & Protocols
The ports and protocols required for the duration of the network assessment are as follows:
From Independent Networks to the workstation/server: TCP port 3239
From the workstation/server to the target devices:
- ICMP echo
- ICMP echo reply
- ICMP TTL expired
- ICMP destination unreachable - port unreachable
- UDP ports 0xC000 through 0xFFFF (49152 through 65535) which are used by UDP traceroute
In cases where UDP responder functionality is being used at the target device, ensure that the following connection is allowed:
From the testing Sequencer to the target host: UDP port 3239
Notification of Changes:
Promptly communicate to Independent Networks any changes made by the Customer that can potentially affect the delivery of the Service
General Customer Responsibilities
" Facilities and cabling
" Provide security clearance and 24x7x365 access to facilities for Independent Networks and authorized personnel, as required. This includes badges, passwords, access cards, and parking privileges
" Ensure accuracy of data/information supplied to Independent Networks
" Understand that Independent Networks relies on immediate clarification and resolution regarding the integrity of data/information supplied (e.g., IP address information)
" Provide a list of key resources for affected areas to Independent Networks prior to the Service delivery, including: Name, Title, and Responsibility, Phone & E-mail wherever possible
" Maintain adequate LAN/WAN security policies, procedures and firewalls. Note: due to the nature of converged (voice/data) environments, Independent Networks assumes no responsibility for viruses that may infiltrate the Customer's infrastructure
" Check availability of power to equipment as requested by Independent Networks
